Engineering and Innovation Experiences at BSU

CASE offers hands-on engineering and innovation field trips for high school classes. Students use maker technology and computing equipment as they step into the roles of engineers and inventors to solve real-world challenges through coding, circuit building and prototyping. Best of all, school visits are FREE of charge.

Schools provide transportation to and from the program and students/districts must bring lunch. Visits last 4.5 hours, inclusive of a 30-minute lunch.

Weather Works: The Maker Space Challenge

The Mount Washington Observatory needs your innovation! Scientists are looking for new ways to expand their network of satellite-connected weather stations to collect and compare weather data from different locations. In this hands-on class designed for high school students, you鈥檒l step into the role of engineers and inventors, using physical computing to design tools that can gather and transmit environmental data. With microcontrollers, sensors, and coding, you鈥檒l create devices that measure temperature, humidity, and wind speed, just like real remote weather stations used by meteorologists. Along the way, you鈥檒l explore how satellite weather systems collect, share, and compare data across regions to improve forecasting and monitor extreme conditions. Test your prototypes, analyze your findings against real-world data, and work with your team to engineer creative solutions for the future of weather technology!
