Professor Winchell is a Professor of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership at 911±¬ÁÏ; she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in educational research, social justice pedagogy, Sheltered English Immersion, and leadership. With a 28-year career in Massachusetts public secondary and higher education, Professor Winchell brings a robust knowledge of learning and adult development to her work. An award-winning educator within both in-person and virtual contexts, Professor Winchell is an accomplished public speaker, presenter, and facilitator. 

Professor Winchell's research interests are in antiracist education and critical pedagogy. She was a lead author for a chapter in "Freire’s Intellectual Roots: Toward Historicity in Practice," which won the Society of Education Professors Book Award. Her book is a co-edited volume "Mentoring While White: Culturally Responsive Practices for Sustaining the Lives of Black College Students" (2022, Rowman & Littlefield). Professor Winchell's most recent publications include a peer-reviewed case study of an antiracist school partnership in the Peabody Journal of Education (2024), and an article on equitable empathy in Faculty Focus (2025). 

Professor Winchell leverages her experience as a nonprofit founder, leader, and entrepreneur to support others who are launching new businesses. As a coach and consultant for nonprofits, schools, institutions, and individuals, Professor Winchell supports people and teams to develop, change, and thrive. A longtime meditator and student of Zen, Professor Winchell offers meditation workshops and retreats in the community. In addition, she volunteers her time as an advocate with the Federation for Children with Special Needs and as a member of the board of Brockton’s Department of Developmental Services.
