Chris Rowan, DSW, LICSW, has been a social worker for more than 30 years. She earned her BSW from Bethany College, her MSW from Widener University, and her DSW from the University of Louisville. Her career has spanned healthcare, behavioral health, community-based practice, leadership, and higher education. Before transitioning to higher education full-time, she most recently served as Director of Social Work at an acute-care community hospital. Her years of working with an ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse population in a historically underserved community have shaped her perspective as a social worker and continue to inform her teaching and scholarship. She teaches practice, policy, and field education across the BSW and MSW programs, drawing on her professional experience to help students connect what they are learning to the realities of social work practice. Her scholarship focuses on access to behavioral health services and the social determinants of health, as well as strengthening the behavioral health workforce and advancing interprofessional collaboration. Her experience supervising MSW interns sparked an interest in educating and mentoring future social workers, ultimately leading her to full-time teaching. She values the many directions a career in social work can take and looks forward to helping students discover where their own interests and experiences may lead them.
